How much energy is normal for a young child? A lot of parents have a hard time getting their children to wind down through the end of the day. For many of us, we expect kids to be quite energetic and healthy, meaning they usually require spending a lot of time doing activities that need them to be physically active.
A variety of activities are recommended by experts such as dancing and walking. It is not only great for their bodies but also their developing minds. But for you, maybe things are a bit different! Maybe you find your kid to be somewhat less energetic or all around the place compared to other kids in the nursery or public gatherings. We ourselves see this all the time during our classes and of course, it's a valid concern.
Playground time is always good to get your children moving and with us, movement is one of our main educational pillars. However, this isn't just any type of dancing routine, together with the structure of our program and the musical elements used, we follow the early years foundation stage learning parameters to ensure our learners can stimulate their minds in a manner that gets their energy focused on our program at their own pace. We briefly discussed this back in our previous post, but when taught by Bilingual Beats staff, kids are given the incentive to move and dance with us, this means an increase in motor skills for them, but it varies in accordance with the type of students we have.
At first, it is normal for a kid to be shy and/or distant from our staff. We are aware that the process of them opening up for us takes some time, so we don't push any of our little friends any more than we see them comfortable to do so. If your kid is shy, we take notice of that and give them the space and time they need but we still make sure they engage with us.
We find after a few lessons everyone is on the move but in different ways. Here's where we see a variety of activities from them and realize how much energy they spend individually. Some go right in front of our teachers dancing away with full joy! But some also stay a bit further and move a bit less, mind you everyone is still having a good time! So for the most part, they are all full of energy actually. We see some dance with their friends! Others dance on their own and others follow the teachers. The silver lining is that everyone becomes active whether more openly or less so. Yet you might wonder, how could you tell if your kid is as active still? The reality of this matter is that all toddlers aged from 0 to 5 are energetic by nature. But as a parent, it might be difficult to understand how much can be normal and how much can be due to external conditions like hyperactivity or early signs of ADHD for example. It is understandable that when you see your kid being a whirlwind of action minutes before bedtime, you can get anxious about it both on a mental and physical level.
Experts explain how this works and agree that stress and a lack of exercise are among the most common reasons that affect children’s hyperactivity. While we can control how much exercise your little ones have while at home, in schools sometimes your kids might not get the right amount of action needed to use their energy. Sometimes it comes down to a simple detention period or a rainy day for a child to be forced to stay indoors and have their drive repressed. This in turn can result in an increase in stress due to the child not using up their energy properly. Yet again, it is important for parents to do their research and see what activities their nursery of choice offers. We ourselves are proud to cover that aspect for our partnered nurseries!
But it is also important not to overlook the home environment you provide for your kid. Having an outlet where you can let your child be more freely active is the best way to map together how your kid channels their energy. This usually involves playing around with your kid, taking them to the park, and overall spending a lot of time with your kid making sure they get to be physically active.
We know a lot of parents nowadays struggle to balance their work-life with their home time, unfortunately. This sometimes translates to their children not engaging in activities that can otherwise benefit their child's development not only physically but mentally too.
Yet there are many alternative solutions for parents to get their kids rolling in action! At Bilingual Beats, a good number of our customers are parents or guardians who seek to get their kids moving when they can't do so at home. Bilingual Beats helps kids get their bodies moving in a way that makes young children put out their energy freely while also following the guidance and learning from our friendly instructors.
On the other hand, parents who have children that are somewhat less active can also benefit from having their kid attend one of our classes. As their metabolism changes, some children may react differently to their surroundings, meaning they may not always seem too keen on running around or becoming too excited around others. It also depends on how comfortable your kid is around others to be fully active. In that way, we are positive that our classes are a good fit for them. We provide an easy-going and kind experience for everyone involved, so when your kid sees others having fun and enjoying our classes, they also feel comfortable to open up and join us in the fun.
In conclusion! It is normal for kids to be very active and especially so when they lack the right mediums to spend their energy. The best way to ensure your kid manages to cope with high levels of activity and stress is to always be able to provide a playground-like outlet for your kid to freely be as active as they want. Music and dancing are great ways to stimulate and motivate their movement! That plus the linguistic factor of learning Spanish make for an all in all great package of activities that Bilingual Beats has tailor-made for toddlers.
