Fun Spanish classes for little ones

The benefits of using technology as a learning tool.

Technology can be an excellent educational tool for children, if you know how to use it! Here comes Highbrow – a new platform of educational, curated selected videos for children.

We can’t avoid it: technology is very present in our daily lives, and also in our children’s lives. At Bilingual Beats we believe TV and technology can be very useful resources when used appropriately.

According to this article by Carey Bryson, some of the advantages of monitoring children whilst interacting with programmes about their interests are:

  • Being able to follow up after watching a TV related show or video. In the case of Bilingual Beats, encouraging the use of Spanish and French words in every day situations.
  • Learning about different cultures and societies that we wouldn’t get to explore otherwise.
  • Discussing after watching a programme. Ask your child questions and show an interest on what he/she is watching.
  • Influence of “good characters” who are good role models.

When we first started considering partnering up with Highbrow we wanted to ensure it was a platform that could be used by parents as support for their children’s educational development. Our videos, which can be accessed through their platform, not only teach children foreign languages, but also they show healthy habits, encourage team work, and even invite children to dance!

At Highbrow they ensure:

  • All of their content is focused on learning and developing skills
  • They make a personalised viewing experience for each child based on their preferences
  • Pro-active suggestions on how to cultivate passions off-line
  • Videos taught by captivating experts are available
  • All of their content is age appropriate and advertising free
  • There is a diligent curation across subjects and ages
  • They make access to extra-curricular activities affordable

“A great deal is known -- if not widely known -- about how to use TV effectively as a disseminator of knowledge, shaper of attitudes, and motivator of recommended actions.

For us, the message is clear: TV isn’t the problem as long as it is used for educational purposes, not as a way of babysitting children, and it also helps when mummy and daddy get involved and speak music with their children, and with us!!
